Programming - First Attempt.

Just a little update to keep the blog up to speed with our progress in class. Last week we had our first go at programming our BASIC stamp. We connected several LEDs to our breadboard and made them flash in sequence. Heres a short video of what we made:

We added the music later so don't get too exited, the LEDs aren't flashing in time to the music. If anyone's interested the song is called 'L.F.O' and it's by LFO.

We're currently working on getting speakers, LDRs and other components connected so we can interact with it in different ways.

Bill Gaver - The Drift Table

As part of our ongoing project we have been asked to research a designer and one example of their work, chosen from a list which Jon Rodgers (our tutor) has given us. We chose Bill Gaver who is a leading design methodologist and currently Professor of Design at Goldsmiths University of London.
The example of his work which we have chosen to look into is The Drift Table (pictured above). The Drift Table is a coffee table mounted on wheels with a small porthole in the centre of the top surface. If you look through the porthole you can see an aerial view of Britain slowly scrolling by. The user can determine which way and how fast the image moves by placing pressure on a certain part of the top surface, this encourages the user to interact and play with an otherwise everyday object. Through the porthole you can view a huge amount of the UK in whichever direction and speed you decide.
We believe that The Drift Table is an excellent example of digital interactive design.
